F.A.Q.
What periods do you cover?
Mainly from 1700 - early 1960's although we do have small quantities of medieval, Elizabethan and 17th century clothes.
Do you do private hire for parties, fancy dress, etc.?
No.
Do you do work for amateur dramatics companies?
No.
Do you make costumes for sale?
No. We only make costumes on a made-new-to-hire basis.
Do you do military uniforms?
Not really, though we have some good examples of 19th century officers and redcoats.
Do you hire a pair of shoes or a handbag?
No. We don't hire accessories on their own but only as part of the outfits that they complement.
What constitutes an 'outfit'?
Clothes normally worn inside including shoes and a hat. Items usually excluded would be topcoats, capes, umbrellas, parasols, jewellery, handbags, fans, furs, etc.
Who do you do work for?
We hire costumes to films, TV productions, theatre and museums.
Can we visit you?
Yes, of course. Just make sure that you have made an appointment beforehand and that we have been given information and/or reference about the project in advance.
What are your hire charges?
These vary enormously depending on the labour put into their preparation. An outfit though could be as little as £100 for a week's hire.
Do you arrange transport for the costumes?
It's generally the client's responsibility to organize pick-up and return of costumes used, although we're happy to suggest shippers and/or handle paperwork for the shipment if needed.
Who is responsible for insuring the costumes?
Once the costumes leave our premises, it's the client's responsibility to make sure the costumes are insured against loss or damage from any cause during the period of hire. Cosprop's valuation of the costumes should be used in effecting such insurance.
What happens if a costume gets damaged or lost?
You should tell us immediately you discover any loss or damage. Cosprop will need to be reimbursed for the losses incurred.
